While I continually mourn the closing of Christian Lacroix’s couture house back in 2009, the ballet he has costumed lends a glimmer of beauty and joy for the moment. And, I really can’t think of a designer more suited to costume this particular production.
Lacroix designed costumes for the ballet “La Source”, (at the Opéra National de Paris at the Palais Garnier through Nov. 12) with a small team, various expert workshops, and 1 million Swarovski crystals, donated by the company.
It’s wonderful to see Lacroix doing work so much in his element- the theatricality, the craftsmanship, the storytelling and above all the Eastern and North African aesthetic which he frequently referenced in his couture gowns as well. If i were in Paris in the next two weeks, this would be on my to-do list! -RS (Images via NYTimes)
